Asphalt shingles are the most commonly used roofing material in the US and consist of a base material called 'felt' that is made of rag fiber or fiberglass mat that is impregnated with asphalt for waterproofing. The asphalt is topped with mineral or ceramic granules that block ultra-violet light that causes the shingle to deteriorate. The granules also give the shingles their color and pattern.
As shingles age, the granules fall off and the asphalt below dries up. In some cases individual shingles can be replaced - in others you may require a new roof.
If you see damaged shingles - or moisture on the inside of your roof - or a leak! - it's time to contact CD Kaller. We can inspect the roof, give you a written description of the damage and an estimate to repair it before you have serious damage.
